Sleep Country USA’s Pajama Drive Brings Sweet Dreams to Local Foster Children
Collecting 6,128 Pairs of Pajamas, Company Celebrates Ongoing Increase in Donations from Community;
Kicks off Shoe Drive for Foster Kids
For Immediate Release
SEATTLE – March 19, 2012 – Sleep Country USA, the Northwest’s number one mattress store, completed its seventh annual pajama drive for area foster children, collecting a total of 6,128 pairs of pajamas for children toddler through teen. One of six drives the company hosts as part of its Sleep Country USA Foster Kids program, the pajama drive strives to ensure that every child in foster care has a pair of new cozy, comfortable pajamas to sleep in, making nighttime in a new home a little easier.
“Foster children enter homes with few possessions of their own. To sleep in a new bed in a new home is scary, and something as simple as a new pair of cozy pajamas to snuggle up in gives these children an extra sense of security,” said Sharon Mooers, Development Director – Western Washington, Olive Crest. “The go-to-bed routine is one that most people remember and cherish for their entire lives. With Sleep Country’s help, we are able to provide foster kids with a routine that is comforting and reassuring.”
In Washington and Oregon there are nearly 20,000 children living in foster care. These children are often removed from their homes with only the clothes on their back. The Sleep Country USA Foster Kids program is designed to provide support to foster children and their families by delivering the necessary items that can be costly and at times overlooked. These include, shoes, coats, clothing, pajamas, school supplies, and during the holidays – gifts.
“With the community’s generosity, we are able to help Northwest foster children sleep a little more safe and snug,” said Terry Horsley, Vice President Brand Strategy, Sleep Country USA. “The success of our pajama drive, and the foster kids program as a whole, relies directly upon our giving communities that help change foster children’s lives for the better. Today we can all go to bed proud knowing that more than 6,000 kids will have a new pair of pajamas at bed time.“
