Sleep Country Secret Santas to Make Christmas Memorable for Foster Children
Annual Toy Drive for Foster Kids and “Be a Secret Santa Photo Contest” inspires community donations to ensure local foster children awake to a present Christmas morning
November 3, 2014 – The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there…Christmas morning is an exciting and memorable time for most children, but for foster kids who can enter foster care just days before the holidays, the worry about whether or not Santa will be able to find their new home is common. To help ensure the Northwest’s 20,000 foster children awake with a present under the tree, Sleep Country USA is hosting its annual “Be a Secret Santa” photo contest to increase donations to its Toy Drive.
Starting on November 3rd, the Sleep Country “Be a Secret Santa” Facebook photo contest invites you to snap a picture of yourself while shopping for your gift for a local foster child or when making your donation of a new, unwrapped toy or gift to the Foster Kids donation bin inside your local Sleep Country store. Photos should be uploaded to the company’s “Be a Secret Santa” campaign page on Facebook. It will then be entered to win a prize pack of Santa’s favorite sleep essentials including an iPad mini for bedtime reading, a copy of The Night Before Christmas holiday book, cozy Tempur-Pedic slippers and a soothing aromatherapy candle. The lucky winner, drawn at random, will be selected on December 15th and also recognized as a Sleep Country USA “Featured Donor.”
How to enter and win the contest: Drop off new, unwrapped gifts at your local Sleep Country store and snap a picture when donating! Upload it to the Facebook campaign page starting November 3rd, and you’ll be entered into the random drawing to win Santa’s sleep essentials, including an iPad mini.
What to donate: Gifts and toys are needed for all ages – toddler to teen. A few of the most requested items include sporting equipment, art supplies, gift cards and electronics.
“Our ‘Be a Secret Santa’ social media contest is an opportunity for us to give back to our generous community and also shares the excitement of giving and getting a gift during the holidays,” said Gina Davis, director of branding at Sleep Country USA. “For foster children, we know the transition into a new home can be difficult, especially during the holidays. The goal of our social media campaign and ongoing Toy Drive is to ensure that every foster child knows Santa has found them with a gift to open on Christmas morning.”
