SEATTLE – October 27, 2011 – Sleep Country USA is culminating its 20th anniversary celebration with a bang, announcing today that it is expanding east to enter brand new markets in Eastern Washington and Western Idaho. In a move to extend the reach of its popular brand throughout the region, Sleep Country USA will open 14 new stores before the end of the year in an acquisition of Mattress Outlet stores in Eastern Washington and Western Idaho – bringing its total store count to 84.
Sleep Country’s acquisition of Mattress Outlet from owner Ken Mullinax will convert fourteen stores East of the Cascades into employee-owned Sleep Country USA stores before the end of the year. Sleep Country offers customers a broad selection of brand-name mattresses backed by a 100-day money-back comfort guarantee, a 100-day price guarantee, and free, same-day delivery, including removal of the old mattress set. Sleep Country will also open two new stores in Lacey and Tumwater, Washington as part of its growth.
“My staff will have the opportunity to join one of few employee owned companies in the United States, and become part of an exceptional team that represents one of the Northwest’s most respected, trusted brands,” said Mullinax, owner of Mattress Outlet. “The community will also benefit from the company’s award-winning Sleep Country Foster Kids Program that supports foster children and their families through six annual donation drives each year.”
Sleep Country is one of select companies nationwide that enables employees to also be owners of the business through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). Sleep Country is recognized by consumers for offering the best selection of brand name mattresses at guaranteed low prices, an expertly trained staff to guide shoppers through the mattress buying experience, and its commitment to the community through its award-winning philanthropy work.
“We are continually looking for strategic growth opportunities that allow us to reach new communities,” said Dale Carlsen, CEO of Sleep Country USA. “Acquiring Mattress Outlet enables us to expand rapidly into a brand new region with over a dozen stores, bringing local customers quality sleep products and a superior shopping experience, along with the ability to give back to their own community by donating to our Foster Kids Program drives.”
The company’s acclaimed Sleep Country Foster Kids Program has donated more than 400,000 important material items like clothes, shoes, school supplies, pajamas and gifts during the holidays, and nearly $500,000 in cash to foster organization partners for foster children in the region. Sleep Country is currently accepting donations of new coats for its Coat Drive for Foster Kids through October 30th, 2011.
